Job Title: Oyster Rag Pot Fabricator (Part-Time)
Location: Palmetto, Florida
Compensation: $15/hour
Schedule: 16–24 hours per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
POSITION SUMMARY
Oyster River Ecology is hiring a Part-Time Oyster Rag Pot Fabricator to support our oyster habitat restoration efforts. This position involves hands-on fabrication of oyster rag pots—restoration units used to promote oyster reef growth along Florida’s coastlines. This position will likely work alongside volunteers, also creating oyster rag pots. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble oyster rag pots by coating a cotton rag with wet cement, then hanging it over an anchor pin and a wood spacer.
- Follow fabrication protocols to ensure product consistency and durability.
- Prepare and organize materials (cutting, batching, labeling) for fabrication and deployment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Track inventory of materials and communicate supply needs.
- Assist with the transport and loading of materials and rag pots.
- Optional: support in-field deployment of rag pots in marine environments.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A positive attitude supportive of our can-do-will-do work culture.
- Able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and work standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in warehouse settings, outdoors, and in hot and humid conditions.
- Reliable transportation to the Palmetto work site.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently after training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Background or interest in environmental science, aquaculture, or estuarine habitat restoration.
- Prior experience in physical labor or habitat restoration work (not required).
